1+ min ago (276+ words) By KATE PAYNE, Associated Press The board of the South Florida college that's giving away a valuable piece of property for Donald Trump's future presidential library revoted to transfer the land on Tuesday. The site is a developer's dream and is valued at more than $67 million, according to a 2025 assessment by the Miami-Dade County property appraiser. One real estate expert wagered that the parcel " one of the last undeveloped lots on an iconic stretch of palm tree-lined Biscayne Boulevard " could sell for hundreds of millions of dollars more. On Tuesday, the board held a new meeting at its campus in Hialeah, a predominantly Cuban American and Republican-leaning suburb of Miami. Dozens of students, professors, alumni and local officials packed the meeting to weigh in on the land transfer, an opportunity some felt they were denied when the board initially voted…...

Letters: Tweaking Proposition 19 could hurt other taxpayers
11+ min ago (315+ words) Re: "Inheritance levy target of repeal" (Page A1, Nov. 30). It takes taxes for our local governments to provide services. When I bought houses, I expected to pay the same as others who bought. Proposition 19, as written, gives a generous $1 million break to children of parents who owned houses. If we increase the assessment break for the survivors, taxes for the rest of us, including struggling first-time buyers, will be higher, or services will be less. I'd leave Proposition 19 as is. Charles Tilford Castro Valley Re: "Lawmakers suggest follow-up boat strike could be war crime" (Page A3, Dec. 1). Of course the follow-up strikes on the boats that the Trump regime has designated as carrying drugs were war crimes. The question is why does mainstream media act as though it is a question, and not clear? This is not even to mention that all…...
Tavita Pritchard returns to take over Stanford football: ‘It’s a dream’
18+ min ago (606+ words) STANFORD " Long before Andrew Luck became an NFL star, he was sitting on a couch in the Stanford quarterback room, a nervous freshman asking veteran starter Tavita Pritchard a basic protection question. "I worked up the courage to ask Tavita what hound-two protection was," Luck said. "Tavita spent 20 minutes with me on the couch. I couldn't hear anything the first 10 minutes because I was too intimidated that the starting quarterback was actually taking time out of his day to teach me something. "That moment stuck with me " his humility, his service, his belief in lifting up the people around him." And now they're back on the same team. Luck, now Stanford's general manager, introduced Pritchard as the 37th head coach in program history on Tuesday, completing an eight-month coaching search that brought a familiar face back to the school that shaped…...

Robert Silverstein, who fought City Hall over Hollywood development and won, dies at 57
22+ min ago (1231+ words) For more than two decades, attorney Robert Silverstein struck fear " and in some cases, loathing " in Hollywood's real estate establishment. During one legal battle, Silverstein convinced a judge to halt construction of a Target on Sunset Boulevard, even though work on the three-story structure was well under way. In another, he secured a ruling overturning the city's approval of the Millennium project, a pair of 39- and 35-story skyscrapers that had been planned next to the Capitol Records building. In yet another case, Silverstein, working as part of a larger legal team, helped persuade a judge to strike down the City Council's approval of the Hollywood Community Plan update, which called for taller, denser development along transit corridors. The city's planning department spent nearly a decade rewriting the plan. Silverstein died Nov. 13 at the age of 57, according to a family member....
